{"id":28,"date":"2010-06-21T10:36:42","date_gmt":"2010-06-21T14:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mritty.net\/?p=28"},"modified":"2011-12-20T10:04:22","modified_gmt":"2011-12-20T15:04:22","slug":"toy-story-3-spoiler-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mritty.net\/disneyblog\/?p=28","title":{"rendered":"TOY STORY 3 SPOILER WARNING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Do <strong>NOT<\/strong> read this post if you have not yet seen<\/em> Toy Story 3<em>.<\/em> <em>While it&#8217;s centered on my upcoming WDW vacations, it reveals a major plot point of Pixar&#8217;s latest movie.\u00c2\u00a0 This is your <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>SPOILER WARNING! <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>SPOILER WARNING!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>SPOILER WARNING!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Okay.\u00c2\u00a0 So I saw<em> Toy Story 3<\/em> yesterday.\u00c2\u00a0 It was, as expected, a phenomenally great movie.\u00c2\u00a0 A worthy successor to the first two in the franchise.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m absolutely positive I&#8217;ll see it again in the theatre, probably sometime very soon.\u00c2\u00a0 There was, however, something that kept me from enjoying the movie to its fullest extent.\u00c2\u00a0 For the last several months, I&#8217;ve been seeing how one of the new TS3 characters, &#8220;Lots O&#8217; Huggin Bear&#8221; (Lotso for short) is now a meet-and-greet character at Disney&#8217;s Hollywood Studios.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently Disney has gone so far as to scent his meet-and-greet area like strawberries, in line with his character in the film.<\/p>\n<p>Based on this knowledge, I obviously assumed Lotso was one of our new heroes.\u00c2\u00a0 A new friend to Woody and the gang.\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve seen the movie, you know that this couldn&#8217;t be further from the truth.\u00c2\u00a0 Lotso is a bitter, angry, sadistic toy bent on dictatorship.\u00c2\u00a0 Throughout the entire movie, I kept expecting and waiting for Lotso to be redeemed.\u00c2\u00a0 For him to come to his senses, for Woody and Buzz to win him over and bring him back to the light side.\u00c2\u00a0 It never happened.\u00c2\u00a0 Even toward the end, when there was a golden opportunity for redemption during the conveyor belt scene, Lotso became even more despicable.<\/p>\n<p>So now WDW has confused me.\u00c2\u00a0 Why is there a Lotso meet-and-greet?\u00c2\u00a0 There isn&#8217;t meet-and-greet for Syd (the human villain of the first movie).\u00c2\u00a0 There isn&#8217;t a meet-and-greet for Stinky Pete (the toy villain of the second movie).\u00c2\u00a0 Why would I want to meet Lotso, after the horrible acts I saw him commit?\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d be more likely to want to punch him in his huggable gut than give him a hug.<\/p>\n<p>There is only one way I can think of to reconcile the oddness of the situation.\u00c2\u00a0 In the movie, we saw that Lotso became so angry and bitter when, accidentally left behind one day, he trekked back to his owner&#8217;s home only to find he&#8217;d been replaced by another Lots O&#8217; Huggin Bear.\u00c2\u00a0 I will force myself to choose to believe the Lotso I meet in the park this summer is not the bitter angry villain of our story, but rather Daisy&#8217;s second Lots O&#8217; Huggin Bear.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 For that matter, I guess one could assume that Lotso (and in fact, any of the Toys that have meet-and-greets in the parks) are generic versions of the Toys we know, as\u00c2\u00a0available in toy stores, rather than\u00c2\u00a0Andy, Daisy, or Bonnie&#8217;s originals.\u00c2\u00a0 After all, toys are not unique.<\/p>\n<p>And before you make this comment &#8211; yes, I know I&#8217;m overthinking this situation.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, I know I&#8217;m more obsessed than anyone rightly should be.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m okay with that.<\/p>\n<iframe class=\"me-likey\" src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fmritty.net%2Fdisneyblog%2Findex.php%3Frest_route%3D%252Fwp%252Fv2%252Fposts%252F28&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=false&amp;width=200&amp;height=75&amp;action=like&amp;font=arial&amp;colorscheme=light\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:200px; height:75px\"><\/iframe>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do NOT read this post if you haven&#8217;t yet seen Toy Story 3 but might in the future!
